There is no place like home! We all know it. A strong family unit with a stable source of livelihood remains one of the most effective and sustainable options towards preventing child abandonment and other forms of abuse.

This is the rationale for SSNCEF’s income generation programme targeted at indigent families. The programme which seeks to build the capacity of families to care for their children basic needs is a part of SSNCEF’s Family Strengthening programme.

Recently, eleven (11) families in Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State were trained on “soap making”.

The skill building session was superbly handled by a skilled facilitator that tutored participants on the rudiments of the business, and carefully tutored participants on how best to set up a small scale business in soap production. Earlier in March and June 2011, SSNCEF trained 15 families in Interior Decoration and 7 families in pastries making respectively. Also, micro grants have been awarded to nine (9) families so far in 2011.

As usual, SSNCEF will evaluate participants’ attitude and award micro-grants to those that are keen on setting up their own soap making business.
